Acne Buster Programme

Why Professional Medical Acne Treatment is Important

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions to affect teenagers.

Contrary to popular belief, it is not just a problem encountered during puberty. Studies have shown that people can suffer from acne well into adulthood, and many adults who had acne-free skin during their puberty can also develop acne later in life.

Aside from being a cosmetic nuisance, acne sufferers can be overly conscious of their skin condition, and feel embarrassed about it. The psychological effects of acne cannot be underestimated.

Many young adults experience low self-esteem, and those with severe acne and acne scars can also develop depression from chronic acne. Therefore, it is important for acne sufferers to consider professional acne treatment to solve their acne issues.

Acne Treatment philosophy

Dr Heng has designed the Ogee Anti-Acne Program around four principles.

  1. Sebum and oil control
  2. Eradication of Propionibacterium acnes- the bacteria that result in inflammation of acne lesion
  3. Elimination of inflammation -reducing damage to the skin layers
  4. Skin renewal- generate new skin cells and untrapping clogged pores

By focusing on the root causes of acne development, we believe that our Anti-Acne Program can effectively clear acne lesions and maintain good skin health.

The psychological effects of acne should not be underestimated and needs to be treated early to minimise scarring.

During your consultation, Dr Heng will do a thorough assessment and evaluation of your skin. During the consultation, you may be asked about the duration of your acne condition, treatments that you have tried previously, and also your routine skin care regime. Information provided allow us a better understanding of your skin type and condition. Throughout the course of treatment, we will monitor you closely, intervening or adding new treatments during the course to let you achieve the optimal result.

Anyone with mild, moderate, and severe types of acne vulgaris (pimples) and want to improve the appearance can seek consultation with us. In addition, individuals with various types of acne scarring can also enquire about the treatment program to find out more.

Acne is a frequent-relapsing condition, and it is common during the recovery progress to have new breakouts occurring. An extraction will stop the inflammation process within the acne lesion, allowing it to heal properly when other treatments are applied. The extractions will be done by Dr Heng himself, and the procedure is quick, safe, and effective.

Downtime depends on the treatment that you are receiving. Besides customizing treatments that are effective, Dr Heng will take into account your lifestyle and work schedule to plan a suite of procedures most suited for you. Nevertheless, you will be advised accordingly some time before each treatment session so that you know what to expect and be able to plan for downtime, if needed.

When it comes to laser treatments, most patients report feeling a mild tingling or pinching sensation. Generally, the laser treatments, extractions and medical facials are well tolerated without additional anesthesia. For patients who are very sensitive, an anesthetic cream may be applied before commencement of the treatment.

Avoid sun exposure for at least a week before the laser treatment. Avoid the use of retinoic acid products, or fruit acid products for 3-5 days prior to the treatment. Inform the doctor if you are taking any long-term medications or supplements.

The improvement is gradual and will become more apparent with every visit. Most patients will see significant improvement after one to three months. As part of our treatment monitoring, we will have photo documentation to record your improvement.

The number of treatments depends on the type of treatment required to treat your acne conditions. After clearance, maintenance is recommended due to the relapsing nature of the condition. During your consultation, Dr Heng will explain in detail the available procedures for your condition and plan out the course of treatment so you have a clearer idea of what to expect.
