V Face Thread Lift

About the treatment

Face thread lift is a procedure that tightens sagging tissue of the face, improving the facial structure in way that is similar to a surgical facelift, but without the need for surgery. In this procedure, Dr Heng utilizes threads made up of polydioxanone (PDO) or poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which are materials mainly used in surgery. This is a minimally invasive procedure.

What is PDO/PLLA thread lift technology?

PDO stands for polydioxanone. PLLA stands for Poly-L-Lactic acid. PDO is a material that is used in surgical sutures and threads for wound closure. In traditional surgery, these threads hold the wound together while allowing tissue repair to take place. The thread material dissolves over time and is broken down and released as carbon dioxide and water, which are harmless to the body. With innovative bioengineering technology, PDO and PLLA has been incorporated into facial threads of various lengths and characteristics to achieve facial rejuvenation.

How does it work?

The PDO/PLLA threads are inserted by Dr Heng through a very fine needle. The threads can be inserted into the muscle, the subcutaneous fat layer, or just under the skin, depending on the areas to be treated and the desired result. After insertion, PDO threads stimulates the synthesis of new collagen and elastin, and also has the added benefit of relaxing muscle and tendon. A more lifted appearance can be observed shortly after treatment and the result continue to improve as neocollagenesis kicks in, reversing the effects of aging. The resulting skin will look tighter, firmer, and fine lines and wrinkles will improve.

The threads come in various dimensions, and most of them has cogs, or barbs, along its length. The barbs allow the thread to hold on to the underlying tissues, and result in a more obvious lifted appearance immediately after treatment. The variety of threads at our disposal allow us to customize a treatment plan for each and every patient, by treating different areas effectively while maintaining an overall natural result.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

An anesthetic cream will be applied on the treatment areas and allowed to be absorbed before insertion of the threads. Having the aesthetic procedures done in the most pain-free way is our priority, and we pride ourselves in designing our thread lift treatments to be as comfortable as possible.

The main treatment procedure is quick, taking about 15-20 minutes. The convenience of our face thread lift procedure earn it its nickname: the lunchtime facelift.

The patient may experience mild swelling which may last for 2-3 days, and soreness which may last for about 5-7 days, depending on the extent of treatment. This is perfectly normal and is to be expected. We would like to emphasise that because no cuts or incisions were made during the procedure, the recovery period is much faster than traditional surgery.

The threads are made up of PDO which will be completely broken down by the body in about 6 months after treatment. PDO is a biocompatible and resorbable material which has been used for decades by surgeons in various operations. Therefore, the thread is safe and will not leave any long-term complications.

Possible risks are usually associated with technique of procedure. These include and are not limited to:
⦁ Puckering
⦁ Depression
⦁ Other skin irregularities
⦁ Thread visible beneath skin surface
⦁ Obvious asymmetry

Why do they happen?
The list of reasons include the following:
⦁ Wrong choice of thread used
⦁ Wrong number of threads selected
⦁ Wrong placement of thread
⦁ Failure to account for overlying skin cover
⦁ Failure to account for effects of previous procedures done to the treatment area

The list above is no meant to be exhaustive. We wish to emphasise that it is important to seek out an experienced, qualified doctor and have the procedure done in a licensed medical aesthetic clinic.

In around 9-12 months, the threads would have been completely dissolved. However, your face will have experienced overall skin tightening, restoration of volume and improved definition of facial contours, giving your face a more firmed look. For patients who wish to maintain the result, repeated treatments may be recommended.

During consultation, inform Dr Heng if you are taking any supplements of long term medications. You may be advised to stop taking some of these before your face thread lift procedure. After the treatment, you will be given a set of post procedure instructions on aftercare, and a follow-up appointment with Dr Heng to review your new lifted result.
